Dr Hertzog van Heerden, originally from Johannesburg, entered the post-graduate programme from the University of the Witwatersrand to complete his MBBCh in 2020. He completed his internship training at Pholosong hospital in Kwa-Thema, before proudly serving his community at the Weskoppies Hospital in Pretoria West.

After some experience gained in the fields of medical research and private practice, Dr van Heerden joined ABJ Oncology in November of 2024. He values a holistic approach in the care of his patients and sees every patient as more than the sum of their parts. His interests include the philosophy and history of medicine, as well as palliative and mental healthcare.

In his spare time, he is a family man, an avid reader and a strategy board games enthusiast.
