Dr Ingrid Craig qualified in Medicine at the University of Pretoria in 1989. She then worked for a year at Bethal Hospital after her internship at Middelburg Hospital. Dr Craig then did a year as a registrar in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Addington Hospital in Durban. She started as a medical officer at the Oncology Department, University of Natal with Prof Amo Jordaan at the head. She worked as a MO for a few years before deciding on specialising in oncology. Dr Craig developed a soft spot for the cancer patients and was very interested in the radiotherapy part of the work. She completed her MMed at the University of Natal in 1996 and then went on to do the College of Medicine of South Africa final in May 1997 qualifying as a clinical radiation oncologist. She worked as a consultant in the same department for a year.
In 1998 Dr Craig started part-time in private practice at the Durban Oncology Centre working for Dr Dayle Hacking. She stayed there until 2006 when Dr Hacking immigrated to Ireland. She then worked for Dr Rory Callaghan at the Oncology Centre near Parklands Hospital in Durban until the end of 2011. Dr Craig was also involved in trial work at both private centres. She is currently working at the Trichardt Oncology Clinic for ABJ.
