Dr Frank Harry Bonfils-Persson matriculated in 1976 having gone to the Vaal High School, Vanderbijlpark. He next qualified in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) from the University of the Witwatesrand having majored in Biochemistry and Physiology. He completed his medical degree at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark in 1986. He initially planned to become a plastic surgeon and worked under Professor Myburg, Wits University Medical School, as a surgical registrar for two and a half years. He then went into General Practice in Pinetown, Durban from 1992 to 1998. In 1999 he started re-specialising and qualified as a clinical radiation oncologist with a Masters degree in Medicine (M.MED Rad(Onc) in 2004. He became a fellow of the College of Medicine South Africa (F.C. Rad (Onc)) in 2002. He was involved in many clinical trials. He is a generalist treating all solid and most haematological malignancies. He is a keen aviator having flown for over 40 years. He holds both a GPL, PPL, is a glider tug pilot and glider instructor. He is also a keen scuba diver and is an advanced nitrox scuba diver. Dr Frank Bonfils-Persson is married to Jane and has two children, namely a son, Jade, a daughter, Ayla and a grandson, Harry.
